How it works

  1. Click open your export ZIP above and pick the file.
  2. If it says the file is damaged, re-download it on a stable connection.
  3. Still failing? Use the fixes below.

If the ZIP is damaged

  • Re-download from the email link while it's still valid. Large exports fail on flaky connections.
  • Compare the file size with what the email or your browser reported. A smaller file is a cut-off download.
  • Try a different unzip tool: 7-Zip on Windows, The Unarchiver on Mac, Files by Google on Android.
  • On iPhone, use the Files app and long-press the ZIP, then Uncompress.

If chat.html freezes

chat.html loads every conversation into one page, and big accounts produce a file the browser can't handle. Ignore it and open the ZIP above, which reads the JSON instead.

Questions

My ZIP has several conversations files. Which do I need?

All of them. Newer exports split history into conversations-000.json, -001 and so on. Opening the ZIP loads them all.
