How it works
- Paste the chat's share link above.
- Click Download Markdown.
- Move the .md file into your vault folder. Obsidian picks it up immediately.
Getting it into Obsidian
For your whole history, open the export ZIP above and export as Markdown. Files are named by date and start with YAML frontmatter (title, source, created, model, tags), so Obsidian's Properties, Dataview and search all work on them. Unzip the result into a ChatGPT folder inside your vault.
Why not copy straight from ChatGPT?
Copying from chatgpt.com brings over web styling and loses structure: code blocks lose their formatting, tables become loose text, and citations turn into odd markers. Exporting first gives Obsidian clean Markdown to work with.
Questions
Can I send many chats to Obsidian at once?
Yes. Open your ChatGPT export ZIP above, select the chats, and export them in one ZIP. Up to 10 at a time is free.
