How it works
- Quick way: copy Claude's import prompt from its memory settings, run it in ChatGPT, paste the reply back into Claude.
- Thorough way: open your ChatGPT export ZIP above and select your main chats.
- Export the Claude pack and paste memory-starter.md into a Claude chat. Save the profile it writes.
The quick way, built into Claude
Claude has an import page with a prompt to run in another assistant. ChatGPT answers with a summary of what it remembers about you, and you paste that into Claude's memory settings. It takes a minute. The catch is that ChatGPT decides what goes in the summary, and its memory often holds outdated details.
The thorough way, from your own words
Your ChatGPT export contains every message you wrote. The memory starter in Carryover's Claude pack collects your recent messages from the chats you choose and wraps them in a prompt asking Claude to write a short profile: who you are, your work, your tools, how you like answers, and your writing style, keeping only what comes up more than once. Review it, then save it to memory or a Project's instructions.
Questions
Does ChatGPT's export include its saved memories?
The export is built around your conversations. The reliable way to get ChatGPT's own memory list is from its Personalization settings, where you can read and copy it.
