What extensions ask for
To add a button inside ChatGPT, an extension needs permission to read and change data on chatgpt.com, and some ask for every site you visit. That's access to every conversation you have, including ones you'd never export. Carryover only sees the single chat you choose to share, and only when you paste its link.
Extensions also don't work on phones. Chrome on iPhone and Android doesn't run them, so if you use the ChatGPT app, a web tool is the only way to get a PDF out.

Are extensions unsafe?
Not necessarily, but each one is code with access to your chats that can update itself at any time. If you only need a file now and then, a link-based tool is less exposure.
