How it works

  1. Open the chat on chatgpt.com, click Share at the top right, then Copy link.
  2. Paste it into the box above with Ctrl+V.
  3. Tap Download Markdown. The file goes to My files › Downloads.

Where to find it on Chromebook

Your Markdown file is saved to My files › Downloads. Open it in the Text app or Obsidian. Google Docs can paste Markdown as formatted text once Markdown is enabled in Tools › Preferences.

What's in the Markdown file

Each turn is a ## heading, ChatGPT's code fences keep their language tag, and ?utm_source tracking is stripped from links. Untick Include my messages to keep only the answers, or tick Timestamps to record when each message was sent.

If something goes wrong on Chromebook

  • Downloads are blocked on a school Chromebook. Set the print destination to Save to Google Drive. Managed devices usually allow Drive.
  • Markdown shows raw symbols in the Text app. That's normal for Markdown. For a formatted view, paste it into Google Docs with Edit › Paste from Markdown (turn on Markdown in Tools › Preferences first).
  • The file isn't in Downloads. Open the Files app and check Google Drive › My Drive, in case the destination was set to Drive.

Good to know on Chromebook

School Chromebooks often block extensions. This page needs nothing installed, so it works on managed devices too.

Other formats

The same link also gives you PDF and Word on Chromebook, plus plain text and HTML under More.
