How it works
- In Claude, go to Settings › Privacy › Export data.
- Download the ZIP from the email and open it above.
- Search, open any chat, and download it, or export many as Markdown or Word.
What's not in the readable export
Files you uploaded to Claude, images, and the separate artifact panel aren't part of the conversation text, so they don't appear. Anything Claude wrote inside the conversation, including code, does.
Searching your Claude history
After opening the ZIP, the search box looks inside every message. It's often the quickest way to find something Claude told you months ago.
What's in Claude's export
A conversations.json with every chat: its name, dates and messages, each marked as yours or Claude's. Carryover reads it on your device, shows it as a searchable list, and renders each chat with its formatting.

Can I export a single Claude chat without the full export?
Claude's share links point to a page that needs JavaScript to load, so the reliable route is the data export.
