Move from ChatGPT to Gemini
Gemini can import ChatGPT memory and chat history in many countries. Where it can't, or for chats you want as documents, export them here.
Or drag your ChatGPT or Claude export ZIP here. It's read on this device, nothing is uploaded.
Carryover Pro
$15 once, yours for life. Local pricing applies in many countries.
- Export your whole ChatGPT or Claude history at once, no 10-chat limit
- Every chat as Markdown with frontmatter, an Obsidian-ready vault
- Every chat as a Word document
- Claude migration pack: Project knowledge files, a memory starter and your own messages
Thanks for buying. Your license key is in the receipt email. Paste it below.
How it works
- In ChatGPT, open Settings › Data controls › Export data and confirm. Download the ZIP from the email.
- Try Gemini's own import first: Settings & help › Import memory to Gemini, or upload the ZIP to its chat history import.
- Where that isn't available, open the ZIP above and export the chats you need as Markdown or Word, then upload them to Gemini or Google Drive.
Gemini's import, and its gaps
Google added two importers in 2026: a memory import that works with a pasted summary, and a chat history import that takes your ChatGPT ZIP. At launch they weren't offered in the EU, the UK or Switzerland, generated images and files aren't brought over, and imported chats may be used under Gemini's normal data policies.
Exporting through Carryover is the fallback that works everywhere, and it keeps your chats as files you control.
Questions
Does Gemini read Markdown files?
Yes. You can attach .md or .docx files to a Gemini chat or a Gem's knowledge.
