How it works

  1. Copy the chat's share link in ChatGPT.
  2. Paste it above. Untick Include my messages if you only want the answers.
  3. Click Download Word. Open the .docx in Word, Google Docs or Pages.

Why not copy and paste?

Pasting from ChatGPT into Word brings over web styling: odd fonts, grey backgrounds and bullet points that don't behave like Word lists. The file from Carryover is built from the chat's structure instead. Headings become Word headings, so the navigation pane and table of contents work. Lists are real Word lists. Tables are Word tables you can resize. Code sits in a shaded monospace block.

Good for

  • Turning a ChatGPT draft into a report you'll keep editing.
  • Handing a research chat to a colleague who lives in Word.
  • Uploading to Google Drive and opening with Google Docs.
  • Sending to Kindle, which accepts .docx files.

Questions

Will it open in Google Docs?

Yes. Upload the .docx to Google Drive and choose Open with Google Docs. Headings and lists carry over.

Is .docx the same as Word?

Yes. .docx is the format Word has used since 2007. Pages, LibreOffice and Google Docs all open it.

Can I export many chats to Word at once?

Open your ChatGPT export ZIP above, tick the chats you want, choose Word, and export. Up to 10 at a time is free; Pro has no limit.
