The format
ChatGPT stores a conversation as a tree of nodes, including hidden system messages, tool calls, edited branches and reasoning summaries. Carryover keeps only what you see in the chat and flattens it:

Questions
Is this the same as the official export?
No. The official export's conversations.json has the full tree for every chat. This is one chat, flattened. To flatten your whole export, open the ZIP above.
