How it works

  1. In the ChatGPT app, open the chat and tap the share icon at the top (or the ⋯ menu), then Copy link.
  2. Open Safari, ideally in Split View next to ChatGPT, and paste the link into the box above.
  3. Tap Download PDF. In Print Options tap Share, then Save to Files.

Where to find it on iPad

Your PDF is saved to Files › Downloads. Open it in Files, Books, GoodNotes or Notability for handwriting notes. Open the PDF in GoodNotes or Notability to annotate a ChatGPT answer with Apple Pencil.

What's in the PDF

Your messages are tinted, ChatGPT's replies run full width, code blocks wrap instead of being cut off, and links print with their address. Untick Include my messages to keep only the answers, or tick Timestamps to record when each message was sent.

If something goes wrong on iPad

  • The file isn't in Downloads. Safari may be saving to iCloud Drive. Check Settings › Safari › Downloads, then look in Files › iCloud Drive › Downloads.
  • You want the PDF in another app. With Stage Manager or Split View, drag the file from Files straight onto GoodNotes, Notability or Mail.
  • The print screen has no Share icon. Pinch outward on the preview to open the full PDF, then tap Share.

Good to know on iPad

On iPad, opening the PDF in GoodNotes or Notability lets you annotate a ChatGPT answer with Apple Pencil, which is handy for study notes.
