Move from ChatGPT to Claude, keep your context
Claude can import a memory summary, but not your chats. Here's how to bring the chats that matter, and skip the thousand you don't need.
Or drag your ChatGPT or Claude export ZIP here. It's read on this device, nothing is uploaded.

How it works
- In ChatGPT, open Settings › Data controls › Export data and confirm. Download the ZIP from the email.
- Open the ZIP above. Search and tick the chats that hold your projects, rules and preferences.
- Export the Claude pack. Upload its knowledge files to a Claude Project and paste the memory starter into Claude.
What Claude imports on its own
Claude's memory import takes pasted text. You run a prompt in ChatGPT, it summarises what it knows about you, and you paste that into Claude's memory settings. It's quick, but it only carries ChatGPT's own summary of you. Your actual conversations, the code conventions you worked out and the drafts you refined, stay behind.
What the Claude pack adds
- Project knowledge files. The chats you picked, merged into a few Markdown files sized to upload cleanly to a Claude Project.
- Memory starter. A ready prompt plus your own recent messages. Paste it into Claude and it writes a memory profile from your words, not ChatGPT's paraphrase.
- Your messages. Everything you wrote, in one file, as a private archive of your own voice.
Pick fewer chats than you think
People who've made the switch say the same thing: importing everything drags stale preferences along. Choose the chats where you set rules you still follow, ongoing projects, and anything you referred back to more than once. Twenty good chats beat two thousand old ones.
